In May of 2020, Trust Montana, Agrarian Trust, and Vilicus Training Institute partnered to establish the Montana Agrarian Commons. The Commons is a 501(c)25 that will hold land, longterm-lease it to farmers, and ensure the land is stewarded responsibly. As more Montana farmers and ranchers approach retirement age, and land prices increase, the Montana Agrarian Commons will work to ensure land is accessible to beginning farmers.
- Do you own a farm or ranch that might fit well into the Agrarian Commons program? If you are wondering what to do after retirement to ensure your land remains in food production and is stewarded responsibly, give us a call: (406)-201-5652.
- Are you a beginning farmer looking for land you can afford? Email us to be added to our interest list and we will notify you when our Commons has a farm or ranch in the pipeline that you can submit a lease application for: firstname.lastname@example.org
If you are a landowner not necessarily ready to sell or donate your land and are looking to lease your farm or ranch, you might find the Farmlink Montana website helpful.
